A Lower House general election was held today. I went to the local elementary school to vote this morning. People over the age of 18 have the right to vote in Japan. My youngest son is 18 years old, so he went to vote for the first time.


今日は衆議院選挙が行われました。午前中、投票するために地元の小学校に行きました。日本では18歳以上の人に選挙権があります。次男は18歳なので、初めて選挙に行きました。

In the UK we would normally write 31st October 2021, but your usage is easy to understand and may be normal in other parts of the world.

I do not know the political system in Japan, but normally a 'general election' is just that - general. Therefore if it's only an election for a specific part of the political system that would not be general.

I think the 'went to' is unnecessary, but it is just a matter of preference and is not wrong.
