I usually use Google Translate when I practice speaking.
I talk to Google Translate using a mic on my headphones, but sometimes it doesn't catch what I say.

After listening, I practice speaking them.
However, I can't particularly pronounce their linking sounds well.
There are no consonant-only sounds in Japanese.
Japanese words always end in a vowel.
So, I've used Google Translate to check whether my linking sounds are correct.

他の方にも書いたのですが、日本語には子音だけの音がなく、必ず母音がくっついていますので、英語のようなリンキングはあまり起こりません。
例えば…in thereですが、inhereって聞こえます。でも、その音をin thereと知らないと、他の単語と思ってしまうのです。
なので、リンキングの発音練習をする時に正しく発音できているか、確認するためにグーグル翻訳を使っていますが、正しく認識しない時があるので、ちょっと悔しいです。🤣

You're right that speaking is a gerund, but that's where things get complicated because gerunds can function in different ways.
"Practice Speaking" is a Verb Phrase where "Practice" is the verb and it takes the gerund "Speaking" as the object.
By contrast, "Public Speaking" is a Noun Phrase. The gerund "Speaking" behaves like a noun and "Public" is an adjective that modifies it.
"Decision Making" is also a Noun Phrase. The gerund "Making" behaves like a noun, and "Decision" is a noun that modifies it. Same with the other examples:
"Report Writing" - Writing is like a noun, Report modifies it
"Team Building" - Building is like a noun, Team modifies it
The reason "Practice Speaking" sounds a little awkward as a title is because it's a Verb Phrase. On the other hand, "Practicing Speaking" and "Speaking Practice" would each get analyzed as Noun Phrases.

I have to agree with Liag. "Verb phrase" is just the predicate, is it not? "practice speaking" can be a noun phrase within the predicate. In "practice speaking," "practice" is a noun modified by "speaking." That's why you can use it as the direct object of verbs. Ie. "I need practice speaking." You could also say "I need TO practice speaking" in which case it's NOT a noun phrase, because the infinitive is used. I think it's a little confusing because "practice" is both a noun and a verb.

Computer voice recognition will often mishear even native speakers. I have to speak very clearly and carefully to computers to guarantee they can catch what I'm saying. This is not a natural way of speaking to other humans, though. I wouldn't say it's a bad thing to use for language learning, but it's definitely not ideal, especially not on its own. My advice would be to try and find podcasts, movies, shows, YouTubers, etc, who are in English so you can hear actual people speaking the language. Also, you can record and listen to yourself speaking a few example sentences.
Otherwise, though, your written English is quite good! Hope this helps!

I’m a language teacher. Google translate is not good for speaking practice. To practice your pronunciation listen to native speakers and imitate them. Also, reading aloud from a book will improve your pronunciation.

This is an interesting issue, and your approach of using technology to practice makes sense. Maybe there are some other technology tools that could be more helpful. One simple adaptation is changing the speed of a video on YouTube. If you use the settings to make the speed just a bit slower, you might be able to repeat what you hear native speakers saying. There may be a Text to Speech function on your device, or that you can add, that will read aloud texts you highlight on your screen. Or maybe you can find an audio book that interests you, and you could practice repeating certain sentences, if the audio is matched with a visual text you can read while you listen. Finally, maybe there are some teaching videos on YouTube that address this topic with demonstrations and practice exercises for native speakers of Japanese. I realize you may have already tried some of these, or there may be other reasons they don't work for you.
