While the knife I was holding in my hands slipped between all the vegetables and that exquisite music resounded from the entire room, that distinctive smell of the pepper suddenly reminded me of that warm place called "home". It's an ineffable feeling that has invaded me since I loved and lived with them.

If a knife slips from your hand, it means you drop it, but here I think you are cutting vegetables, right? Also, if that "home" doesn't exist any more or you have since moved somewhere else, then you may use "called."
