On The Verge of Death: Part II

Less than a year ago, an Egyptian batyscaphe named Sinbad crashed. There were 45 tourists aboard, six of which tragically passed away. This story made a splash in Russian media, since travelling to Egypt is very common here, and all of those tourists were Russian citizens. As I've written in my previous posts, I am not a huge fan of reading news like that, so this story might have passed me by if it weren't for one thing. I've been in that batyscaphe! Three years ago, my family and I had a vacation over there in Hurghada, and we went on a bathyscaphe dive in order to diversify our trip. The glass floor allowed us to see plenty of exquisite fish and even some chunks of sunken ships. It was an interesting experience. After the dive, we received a certificate from that company, which now serves as proof of this story. Only one and a half year later, the very same bathyscaphe would go down, injuring dozens of fellow tourists, mostly parents and children.

"Pass me by" has a different meaning than "pass by me." I'm guessing that you intended the expression that is synonymous with going unnoticed by you?

I've been in that batyscaphe!

"Had a vacation" is not wrong, but it focuses on the fact that the vacation is over, whereas "were on vacation" fits well with a description of what you did during that time.

Exquisite is an interesting choice here... I would never say it. I feel like it's more used for art? I
