I have no news today as is almost always the case with my entries here, so I'll write about my English online lesson with a Filipino tutor last night.
The material was the following news: "Spicy dispute over the origins of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos winds up in court".
https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/26/business/flamin-hot-cheetos-pepsico-lawsuit/index.html.
The following is the feedback from the tutor.
*Grammar*
I said: He makes a suit against his company.
Correct: He filed a lawsuit against his company.
---> Oops, he might be a tailor who made clothes to his company staff members. Lol
I said: Probably the company don't want him to become rich.
Correct: The company probably doesn't want him to become rich.
---> Oh, I still made such an easy and basic mistake. Hahaha
winds up (verb) [ wahynds ]
I said, [winds], like "The Sun and the North Wind" in Aesop's Fables.
What a shame!
Lol
便りがないのは良い知らせ!
特にニュースがなく、いつもながらここに書くネタがないので、昨晩のフィリピン人の先生との英語のオンラインレッスンについて書きます。
教材は以下のニュースでした:「フレーミン・ホット・チートスの起源をめぐる辛口の論争が法廷で決着する」
https://www.cnn.com/2024/07/26/business/flamin-hot-cheetos-pepsico-lawsuit/index.html
winds up (動詞) [ワインズ]
私が言った: [ウィンズ]、まるでイソップ物語の「北風と太陽」のように。
残念!
