Because my job has been adjusted, some of my former colleagues are theoretically not my colleagues anymore. So I never dare to want them to do something for me. This summer when I attended the building civilization city activity, some former colleagues worked with me at the same place again. One day I sent a sample form to our WeChat group for some reason, then the former colleague sent me a private message reminding me if I was making a mistake. Yesterday, a former colleague brought my certificate to me from a community that was far away from my office. I didn't dare to expect these things to happen since l left that department. It is because I am not a confident man. Furthermore, they don't have any obligation to do this in any circumstances. They don't have any mistakes even if they are not doing so. I am very touched when they do that. Although we are not colleagues now, I still hope they work hard, take care, have a happy family and a bright future. Again, thank them for their kindness and enthusiasm.

I'm not sure I understand this
I mean, even though they don't do these for me, they should not be blamed. because they do this just because they are kind, further more, this is not their obligations.

"I thank them" could be used if telling a story in the present tense but in my experience I haven't come across people speaking that way. In this essay it gives the effect of sounding formal/not natural
You could say "I thanked them" if you told them directly or "I am thankful" if you felt gratitude but didn't tell them.
