My very first entry on LangCorrect

I stopped publishing pieces of writing on Lang-8 two years ago. I can remember it as if it were yesterday because last article I published was about the beginning of what later would be sadly known as COVID-19.
Yesterday, I don’t know exactly why I decided to start publishing again on Lang-8. In the years that I was a member of that useful tool for language learners I wrote hundreds of entries and met amazing people. However, to my horror when trying to sign in Lang-8 yesterday, I discovered that it was no longer available. I became shattered. They said that if you liked you could sign up for a similar website. Of course, I did it right away but it wasn’t the same. There were many tools for language learners but nothing similar to what Lang-8 had offered me. So when I started looking for new ones, I came across LangCorrect.
So far I have corrected an entry and today I decide to give LangCorrect a try. I don’t know exactly how it works but I hope to learn it over time. Meanwhile I hope someone correct my very first entry here.

My very first entry on LangCorrect

I stopped publishing pieces of writing on Lang-8 two years ago.

I can remember it as if it werehappened yesterday because the last article I published was about the beginning of what later would be sadly be known as COVID-19.

"as if it were yesterday" is correct but "as if it happened yesterday" is more natural. "what later would be sadly known" sounds strange, but "what later would sadly be known" is quite common. In general, an adverb should come just after "would" when it is used with a conditional verb, for instance one would say "I would happily be your best man" but not "I would be happily your best man", or "I would gladly run ten miles" but not "I would run gladly ten miles".

Yesterday, I don’t know exactly why I decided to start publishing again on Lang-8 yesterday.

If "Yesterday" is at the beginning, it describes the verb that follows it, in this case "I don't know", which isn't what you want to say.

Many thanks Fitzpart for taking the time to read and correct my post.

I can remember it as if it were yesterday, because the last article I published was, sadly, about the beginning of what later would be sadlywould later be known as COVID-19.

The commas I added are not strictly necessary, but break up the sentence to make it easier to understand.

I moved "sadly" a bit farther up in the sentence because "what would later be known as" is a very common phrase (and therefore easy to read), but "what would later be sadly known as" is not.

Yesterday, I don’t know exactly why, I decided to start publishing again on Lang-8 again.

If you want to keep "Yesterday" at the front - you need this extra comma. You're basically adding "I don't know exactly why" as an extra bit of information to the sentence "Yesterday I decided to start publishing on Lang-8 again."

Alternatively, you could do this:
"I don't know exactly why I decided to start publishing on Lang-8 again yesterday."

In the years that I was a member of that useful tool for language learners, I wrote hundreds of entries and met amazing people.

However, to my horror, when trying to sign in Lang-8 yesterday, I discovered that it was no longer available.

I becamewas shattered.

Of course, I did itso right away, but it wasn’t the same.

Feedback

Welcome! I am also very new to LangCorrect. I hope you and I both enjoy it as much as you enjoyed Lang-8!

Many thanks haagen_daz for correcting my very first entry here. I'd like to help you but I see you haven't published anything here so far. As I wrote on my entry, I don't know how LangCorrect works yet. I'd like us to become friends so that we can correct our entries each other. Do you know how to do it? Thanks again haagen_daz

Hi jorgenager! I think you can go to https://langcorrect.com/account/user/haagen_daz/journals/ to see what I've written so far. I was also able to click on your profile and click the "Follow" button. I don't know what it does, we'll see :)
