My pet!

Presently, I have no pets. I wish I had a dog or a parrot. Actually, my landlord does not allow me to keep pets. It is very unfortunate. Years ago, I had a parrot which I loved a lot. My parrot liked to eat walnuts and apples every day. One day, after finishing my work at the office, I got home and knocked on the door. When my sister opened the door, unfortunately, the parrot flew away.

It was my fault because my sister told me to close the door immediately because the parrot was out of the cage. But I did not listen to her and thought that the parrot also loves me and will not fly away. I was wrong. I kept the door open for around 10 seconds, and the parrot being an opportunist, flew away.

I don't think the problem is one of grammar but of register. "Presently" is a very formal word. Perhaps "at the moment" or "right now" would be a less formal alternative?

Yes, I agree. I think it might also have to do with where one grew up as sometimes expressions change from region to region (California - Maine etc.)

My pet!

Presently, I have no pets.

This is grammatically correct, but we usually would not say it this way. Better:
Currently, I have no pets.
Right now I don't have any pets.

I wish I had a dog or a parrot.

ActuallyHowever, my landlord does not allow me to keep pets.

It is very unfortunate.

Years ago, I had a parrot which I loved a lot.

My parrot liked to eat walnuts and apples every day.

One day, after finishing my work at the office, I got home and knocked on the door.

Again, this is grammatically correct, but does not sound natural. Better:
When my sister opened the door, the parrot, unfortunately, flew away.

It was my fault because m. My sister told me to close the door immediately because the parrot was out of the cage.

But I did not listen to her and. I thought that the parrot also lovesd me and willould not fly away.
