My Life in SZ (10)

Started from the next day, sister Wang introduced more about our job and taught us how to sell products to tourists when they entered the exhibition center.

The center was divided into two parts. The first part was for greeting, we named it as Greeting Hall. In the hall, one of us would give a brief introduction about SZ, some history of China, and implied how precious the jade it was over a long period because we planned to sell some jade crafts to them. The second part was a small room around 25 square meters, we called it as learning Room where we would gave them some knowledge about Traditional Chinese Paintings, ancient coins or other additional information. The third part as you may have guessed was the Selling Area where around 200 square meters.

I believe the layout was and is popular in most shopping places for tourists in China, however, it was new for me and other newcomers recruited from job market at the time.

Sister Wang was responsible for teaching us. I even remember her words now which let me succeed in the company.
“Always follow a customer from beginning to end, do not give him or her up in the middle, unless you are 100% guaranteed the person disgusting you.”
“You’ll be feeling excited about the job in the first three months, then bored by it.”
“You must continue learning by yourself, then you are ability to make sense to the porcelain wares.”
She was right since she already had over 10 years experiences in the tourism. A local high rank police officer was her second husband who supported her business.

Wow, that's a really honest assessment to new hires! I don't think I've ever heard of anyone doing this in the US.

Deeply understand a porcelain ware: name, ingredients, history or story for it.
