I want to do that because I'd like to converse, anyway, to be able to converse with my son of law (my gender ?)

I have big difficulties to understand ; so they are obligedhave to speak in slow motionly.

I am sure that the reason is a lacke of confidence and a lacke of practisce.

So I am very very motivated and I plan to take between 30 minutes and 1 hour each day to practisce.

For that, I bought 2 directory notelanguage learning books.

One to write words/expression in English and the corresppondanceir equivalent in french antd the other for the same thing but wroitten in French with the correspondanceits equivalent in English.

I wil also buy a very good book for English grammar training.

And I also I watch Tv shows in English with subtitles in french... to train my ear.

So I hope to be more "fluent" onby february for my next trip to the US.

In English, "American" means specifically someone from the US, and is the usual term used in that case. You can say sometimes "a US citizen", but that's usually used for more formal contexts.

If you want to be more general you'd say "South American" / "North American" (US, Canada, rarely Mexico) / "Central American" (Mexico to South America). We don't really have a short term for someone from the Americas in general.

It's worth pointing out that "practise" is a specifically British spelling, and one that's getting slowly replaced by the American spelling "practice" even in countries using British English derived varieties of English. In American English, it's always "practice"

"correspondence" is used specifically for letters or messages that have been exchanged, it's not used generally as a noun of "corresponding"

Training is usually used where there is in-person instruction involved, or for sports. (It's also not used when talking about classes in schools for children)
