My Family

I was born in a small village in Gongji town, Taihe county of Anhui Province.

My father worked for the local government and my mother was a farmer.

I have three siblings: my two oldest brothers and one youngest sister.

As I started to remember things, my brothers were in school in the town. My mother did farm work every day. My father sometimes helped my mother to do farm work.

Living conditions back then were really poor. We didn't even have enough food to eat and enough clothes to wear.

My mother made fabric, clothes and shoes for us by herself. (Villagers planted cotton. People used cotton to make fabric.)

There was no paved road in the countryside. All the roads were dirt roads in the countryside. If it rained, it would be hard to get to somewhere else.

Children in the countryside didn't have any toys. They only played with dirt, branches of trees or something else that was easily found in nature.

Of course, my parents are no longer around. My siblings and I have become old people, but anyway, my siblings and I all went out of the village through our hard work. My two oldest brothers live in Shanghai. My youngest sister lives in Hangzhou, and I live in Fuyang now.

I haved three siblings: my two oldestr brothers and one youngestr sister.

Thank you very much. Could you please tell me the reason for using had to replace have?

Thank you very much. Could you please tell me the reason for using had to replace have?

I used it to match the past tense of the sentences before.

The sentence is not wrong at all by itself. Have is more like talking from the past till now.

You were talking about your past mostly from assuming your childhood part of your life only.
