Part 1
It was five o’clock on a winter’s morning. M. Poirot stand on the platform with a general.
The general thanked M. Poirot for his help. After their conversation, the general left and a lieutenant was delegated the duty of seeing off M. Poirot. The Lieutenant tried to converse with M. Poirot in order to avoid silence.
A lady on the train looked at the two men through the window. The train was going to leave, but M. Poirot climbed aboard the train till the last minute and the Lieutenant finally finished his speech.
There are two Englishes on the train. M. Poirot went to the restaurant to search of hot coffee.
Meanwhile the lady was sitting in the restaurant. Her name is Mary. M. Poirot observed Mary, he judged Mary has poise and efficiency. another English also got in the restaurant and sat on the chair opposite Mary. M. Poirot listened to their conversations.
The train would delay. Mary wanted to catch the next train. If there is an hour or two delay, she would miss her connection. Eventually the train was arrived only five minute late, having made up time on the journey.
