Mr. Din sSells a gGhost

We capitalize the first letter of important words in titles.

There is a ghost story which commonly appears in Chinese textbook in high school textbooks called, "Mr. Din sSells a gGhost", i." It is not a scary ghost story but a funny tale.

The story itself is not meaningful, however, the literature shows how the folks seepeople saw the world hundreds of years ago.

AsHere's how the story goes:.

When Mr. Din was young, one night, he met a ghost on his way.

This was an incomplete sentence so I appended the next fragment to it to make it complete.

One night, he met the ghost on his way.

Mr. Ding asked:" w, "Who are you?

"I'm a ghost, and you? " the ghost replied.

the ghost replied.

This was a fragment so I appended it to the previous sentence.

Mr. Din cheatlied to the ghost.

"It is too tired to walk, we can carry each other by turns"

Mr. Din answered.

The ghost waseighed almost no weight so thething so Mr. Din carried the ghosit very easily.

However, Mr.DinMr. Din, however, was too heavy for the ghost to carry.

We try to avoid beginning a sentence with "however."

the ghost askexclaimed.

"Because I'm a new ghost, a new ghost always is as heavy as a living human being," Mr. Din answered.

The ghost accepted thehis answer.

After some times., Mr. Din asked the ghost, "I just died recently, so I do not know what ghosts are afraid of."

Mr.Din asked the ghost:

"I just died recently, not knowing what are ghosts afraid of "

"We are afraid of living creatures' s spit," the ghost answered.

or, even better:

"We are afraid of the spit of living creatures," the ghost answered.

When they walked beside the river, the ghost lightly slipped onto the water and crossed without a sound.

The ghost lightly slipped on the water and cross the river without any sound.

HMr. Din, however, Mr.Din struggled forto swimming and made some big splashes.

or

Mr. Din, however, struggled to swim and splashed loudly.

"Why are you so loudly?"

"I'm a new ghost, a. A new ghost always notdoes not have the skills to cross thea river, never. Please don't mind me."

These mean all the same thing.

- Please don't mind me.
- Please pay me no attention.
- Please pay no attention.
- Please pay me no mind.

Mr. Din answered.

The ghost accepted thehis answer again.

A few days later, they arrived athe Wan City.

The ghost suddenly rode on Mr. Din's head.

Mr. Din shocked, grabbed the ghost in a hurry , and then spitted to on the ghost.

Past tense of "spit" can be either "spit" or "spat."

At the same time the ghost touched Mr.Din's splis soon as Mr. Din's spit touched the ghost, it transformed into a goat.

After all this happened, Mr. Din then dragged thise goat to the market, and sold it for thousands of dollars.

Henceforth, there is a saying goes in the streets which goes like this: "Mr. Din sold the ghost , and earned mucha lot of money."

'had almost no weight to him/her/it' is a phrase.

The ghost asked.

In English, we wouldn't use asked at the end of a piece of dialogue if the final sentence is not a question. So, this is just hard to translate.

"Because I'm a new ghost, a new ghost always is as heavy as a living humanbeing." Mr.Din answered.

So, 'living human' could translate as 'a living being' or 'the living.'

After some times.,

Mr.Din asked the ghost:,

"I just died recently, I do not knowing what are ghosts afraid of ."

"We are afraid of a living creatures' 's spit." tThe ghost answered.

When they walked beside the river.,

Tthe ghost lightly slitepped on to the water and crossed the river without any sound.

Slip would mean to fall here.

However, Mr.Din struggled forto swimming and made some big splashes.

The ghost suddenly rode on top Mr.Din's head.

At the same time the ghost touched Mr.Din's split, it transformed into a goat.
