On 22nd of May, the musician Mory Kanté died at the age of 70.
Born in Guinea, he was sent to Mali as a teenager. He studied at an arts school in Bamako and joined the famous Rail Band of the Bamako train station's buffet. In the 1970s, he was among the first African musicians to move to France and pursue his career in the atmosphere of openness and tolerance in Paris that time. He was, together with figures like Salif Keïta, Alpha Blondy, Youssou N'Dour or Papa Wemba, among those who shaped what we call World Music today.
