Use of a semi colon is more effective here and makes the sentence have more impact. Using 'and' after a comma is called an Oxford comma. Personally I use an Oxford comma when joining a sentence to another sentence that uses 'and'. For example "Today i want to eat and drink, and go hiking" instead of "Today i want to eat and drink and go hiking".

perfect until 'this' - it's unclear what aspect of being young/old you're referencing. I've used 'our lives' but also thought about 'mortality'
