The 1980s

If there were a time machine, I would like to go back to the 1980s.
It's a thousand times better than messed-up 2026.
We didn't have phones or GPS, and we didn't know what Tiktok was.
We only had a beat up bike and a terrible sense of direction.
And the rule was to get home before the street lights turned on.
My grandparents were still alive.
What a happy childhood!
We survived each day on tap water instead of bottled water.
The mountain spring water was drinkable.
We filled up our bottles.
If you turned on the TV, you could watch Japanese anime.
If you were lucky, you could even watch an outdoor movie.
Would you stay in the 1980s or go back to 2026?

The 1980s

If there wereI had a time machine, I would like to go back to the 1980s.

You could also shorten "I would" to "I'd" in this sentence --> I'd like to go back to the 1980s. This would make it sound more casual/informal.

It's a thousand times better than messed-up 2026.

We didn't have phones or GPS, and we didn't know what Tiktok was.

We only had a beat up bike and a terrible sense of direction.

And the rule was to get home before the street lights turned on.

What a happy childhood!

We survived each day on tap water instead of bottled water.

The mountain spring water was drinkable.

We filled up our bottles directly from the streams.

If you turned on the TV, you could watch Japanese anime.

If you were lucky, you could even watch an outdoor movie.

WIf you went back, would you stay in the 1980s or go backreturn to 2026?

A bit more natural. Without a little introduction at the start of the sentence, I think a question like "would you stay in 2026 or go back to the 1980s" would work better here.

Great paragraph! 2026 certainly has its problems, but there are some good bits too - I don't think I could go without Spotify for music or Wikipedia for random facts :)
