Losing a friend (Part 2)

"Of course he died. He committed suicide". My friend looked at me strangely. Don't blame me for not understanding. I was in a foreign country, face with a foreign culture and it was my third language. So, yeah. I had problem understanding. I thought, if you commited suicide you can still survived. But apparently, no.

Corrections

Losing a friend (Part 2)

"Of course he died.

He committed suicide"."

If it makes logical sense for the period to be either inside or outside the quotation mark - if you're quoting a full sentence, and you don't write anything else after it - then we always put the period inside the quotation mark.

My friend looked at me strangely.

Don't blame me for not understanding.

I was in a foreign country, faced with a foreign culture and it was my third language.

So, yeah.

I had a problem understanding.

Or "I had problems".

I thought, if you committed suicide you canould still survived.

Difficult to explain the tense here. But this sounds more natural.

But apparently, no.
