Looking for Advice to Improve my English
Hello everyone!
I'd like to ask for some advice about how to improve my English. I know that many people will say it's the best to "live in the language", but right now, I only have the opportunity to expose myself in a passive way.
When I'm watching series or movies in English (that's usually what people recommend), I focus on enjoying the story, understanding jokes or the drama at the moment. I don't stop to analyze grammar or look at how each phrase is organized because, sincerely... doing that is boring to me, it's not fun at all. If I start "studying" while watching something, I feel like I lose interest and stop enjoying it.
So, although I listen to a lot of English, I feel it's more passive exposure than an active learning. Now, I'm at a weird level where I can communicate what I want, but I still write "weird" or "unnatural" not like a native English. My brain continues to use Spanish structures.
Do you have any advice for me? I really want to enjoy the process.

Me gustaría pedirles consejo sobre cómo mejorar mi inglés. Sé que mucha gente dirá que lo mejor es "vivir en el idioma", pero ahora mismo solo tengo la oportunidad de exponerme a él de forma pasiva.
Cuando veo series o películas en inglés (que es lo que suele recomendar la gente), me centro en disfrutar de la historia, entender los chistes o el drama del momento. No me detengo a analizar la gramática ni a fijarme en cómo se organiza cada frase porque, sinceramente, hacerlo me resulta aburrido, nada divertido. Si empiezo a "estudiar" mientras veo algo, siento que pierdo el interés y dejo de disfrutarlo.
Así que, aunque escucho mucho inglés, siento que es más una exposición pasiva que un aprendizaje activo. Ahora estoy en un nivel extraño en el que puedo comunicar lo que quiero, pero sigo escribiendo de forma "extraña" o "antinatural", no como un nativo. Mi cerebro sigue utilizando estructuras del Español.
¿Tienes algún consejo para mí? Tengo muchas ganas de disfrutar del proceso.

"Immerse myself" works a bit better, but expose is generally fine.
When I'm watching series or movies in English (that's usually what people recommend), I focus on enjoying the story, understanding jokes or the drama atin the moment.
So, although I listen to a lot of English, I feel it's more passive exposure than an active learning.
Now, I'm at a weird level where I can communicate what I want, but I still write "weird" or "unnatural", not like a native Englishwould.

Your English is definitively not that unnatural to me. I understand everything and almost all the grammar is correct. It's just that sometimes there's a bit of a better way of saying what you want to say.
My advice is to try studying some grammar every now and then and maybe do some sentence mining. Look into that. You gotta break some eggs to make an omelette.
Even without studying grammar at this stage, your English is fine. It will get better over time, if you continue to consume and use English.

Well… to give it to you straight, active learning takes work. You say that trying to dissect an episode or movie's English dialog feels boring, but since you don't have that many opportunities for immersion (as you claim), you need to put in the effort. Having said that, the "enjoyment" and "dissection" don't have to be done at the same time. There's nothing wrong with watching something at least twice: the first, for enjoying the work as it was intended; and the second, to help you take apart and study how the words and phrases come together in the dialog. The "pause" and "rewind" buttons are there for a reason. And well, it's always possible to ask other people (like here!) about stuff you didn't quite understand at a first pass.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I understand your point, because active learning really does take effort. I just prefer to keep my learning enjoyable, so I’m looking for ways that feel more natural and motivating for me.
