If you get used to a lot of poems and novels when you are young, somehow you tend to misunderstand that you know what the life is all about. Moreover, you may get disappointed or disillusioned because not all the things are so beautiful and impressive like those in the novels. However, that does not mean that reading literature is a bad thing, but in fact it cultivate your mind. When it combined with your own experience, your reading will trump everything.
若くして多くの詩や小説に慣れ親しんでしまうと、社会経験皆無であってもなんとなく人生がわかったような気になるものだし、社会に出ると体験するものほとんどすべてが必ずしも小説のように感動的でないため、失望したり幻滅したりするのである。

"慣れ親しんでしまう" seems more descriptive than just "get used to" - in English this seems very plain. Some more descriptive English choices could be "immerse yourself in", "deeply study", "obsess over".
