Linguistic Distance
Do you know the word "linguistic distance"?
Based on Wiki Pedia, linguistic distance is the measure of how different one language is from another.
As I'm a Mandarin speaker, learning Japanese would be easier for me than learning English, because Mandarin has a closer linguistic distance with Japanese.
On the other hand, it may explain why I saw some polyglots can learn so many European languages fluently but still struggle with Japanese or Mandarin.
Language shapes our view of the world. The more I struggle with English grammar, such as tricky tenses, singular and plural forms, and which articles to use with nouns, the more I realize there are significant differences in our mindsets.

You did really well with this! I think that unless someone is actually looking for mistakes (e.g. in this setting or as a teacher marking work), none of it really mattered that much and I would probably just brush it aside.
Also this topic was really interesting! It also probably explains why, as a native English speaker, I feel so much more inclined to learn French opposed to something like Chinese or Japanese.

You could also say "are you familiar with..." which feels a bit more natural.
