Library
For several years, I volunteered at a university library. I have quite a good memory about my volunteering activities. I engaged in various kinds of tasks and enjoyed them, especially a role of library tour guide for foreign students and visitors.
In the first place, I loved the quiet and calm atmosphere in the library. Even in the corner for chatting, users were smart enough to refrain from speaking loudly. In the space for studies, students usually worked out their tasks silently, sitting at the desk. I also used to sit at the desk to read books and newspapers in the very quiet place.
Secondly, there are numerous books I love in the library, although I am not a bookworm. Despite that digital books are getting more popular nowadays, I still like to take the book in hand. I prefer physical books, because I like turning, touching and smelling the pages of a book. The university library stores a good number of materials from ancient books to newly published ones. Each of them has its own characteristic with from the cover to content and attracted me to read.
数年間、大学図書館でボランティアをしました。その活動については、かなり良い思い出があります。様々な仕事に従事して、特に、留学生や訪問者のための図書館ツアーガイドを楽しみました。
まず第一に、私は図書館の静かで落ち着いた雰囲気が大好きでした。雑談のためのコーナーでさえ、利用者は大声で話すことを控えるほど節度がありました。勉強のためのスペースでは、学生は通常、机に向かって静かに課題に取り組んでいました。私も、とても静かな場所で机に座って本や新聞を読んでいました。
第二に、私は本の虫ではありませんが、図書館には好きな本がたくさんあります。最近はデジタルブックが人気になっていますが、私はまだ本を手に取るのが好きです。紙の本の方が好きです。なぜなら、本のページをめくったり、触ったり、匂いを嗅いだりするのが好きだからです。大学図書館には、古い本から新しく出版された本まで、かなりの数の資料が保管されています。表紙から内容まで、それぞれに特徴があり、読むのに魅了されました。
