Libraries have always had a special place in my heart. My mom was a staying at home mom, but for a few years she used to volunteer at the local library. I had spent many afternoons playing and doing my homework in the library. I love books and the infinite possibility of knowledge you have at the tips of your fingers when you’re in a library. As I grew older, I always read less and less. During the university years I had so much academic work to do, study and write that I slowly forgot how satisfying it was to read a book for the sake of reading it. I got used to reading magazines or only short texts, got used first to YouTube and then got almost addicted to podcasts. When I started studying German I got a card from the local Library in Zurich, the PBZ Bibliothek, but somehow I was only borrowing books to learn German, grammar books, test preparation books, etc. After the intense phase of learning German was over, I decided to keep my library card, and started to bring “normal” books home. In many occasions I would receive a reminder in my email that it was time to return the book, and I wouldn't even have started with it, or had only read the first 10 pages. I tried extending the return date and gave another chance, but mostly I would just return the book after 60 days without reading it. But in the middle of that game of bringing unread books and taking new ones, I eventually did read some of them, and the more I read, the more I wanted to read new ones. Now I go to the library approximately every two weeks. I take some books in German, some in English and occasionally a book in Spanish. Sometimes I returned them unopened, or unfinished, but I’m glad that I have access to such a wonderful Library full of books; because if I had to spend money on buying them, probably I would have never rediscovered my love for reading.

What a lovely story! I love libraries, too.
My mom was a staying -at -home mom, but for a few years she used to volunteer at the local library.
Since 'stay-at-home' mom is a kind of compound adjective, I would use '-' to connect the words. For example, state of the art technology would look better as state-of-the-art technology.
I had spent many afternoons playing and doing my homework in the library.
Remove 'had' as it is a little redundant here. The reader knows the sentence is past tense with your usage of 'spent'.
As I grew older, I alwayswould read less and less.
During the university years, I had so much academic work to do, between studying and writeing, that I slowly forgot how satisfying it was to read a book for the sake of reading it.
I got used to reading magazines or only short texts, then I got used first to YouTube and then got almostalmost became addicted to podcasts.
IOn many occasions, I would receive a reminder in my email that it was time to return the book, and I woulhadn't even have started with it, or had only read the first 10ten pages.
I tried extending the return date and gaveiving it another chance, but mostly I would just return the book after 60sixty days without reading it.
But in the middlest of that game of bringing unread books and taking new ones, I eventually did read some of them, and the more I read, the more I wanted to read new ones.
Here I replaced 'middle' with 'midst'; it sounds more refined while conveying the same point. :)
Sometimes I returned them unopened, or unfinished, but I’m glad that I have access to such a wonderful Library full of books; because if I had to spend money on buying them, I probably I would have never rediscovered my love for reading.
Move 'I' in front of 'probably'-it just sound more natural.

This was such an enjoyable read! I had only minor corrections and recommendations for your writing. Libraries have a special place in my heart too-I used to work at one during my university years. Cheers and keep on writing :)

Great journal. I can relate. I also used to read a lot when I was younger, and I'd like to start reading more books again.
