Taking Notes
How do you take notes when someone is speaking at a meeting? It is difficult for me to balance listening to a presentation and summarizing key messages on notes. I tend to miss what speaker said by concentrating on the comprehension, while focusing on taking notes prevents me from grasping the overview.
Note-taking is too valued in the school education. Especially at public schools in Japan, class notes are evaluated to see how students have proactive attitude toward classes and ability to express themselves. This education has led some students to overfocus on sophistication of notes. They make their handwriting more beautiful and decorate sentences by highlighting with various colors.
I had studied at a private high school and been taking notes directly on my textbooks. As a result, I am still not good at taking notes without pre-reads. If I had learned basic note-taking skills at a high school, if not public schools, it would be helpful for my current work.
