"télougou" is also pretty common (this translitteration corresponds to French phonology, "telugu" corresponds to the English one)
un examen télougou = an examen which character is Telugu
un examen DE télougou = an exam about Telugu as a language or a school subject
a school subject = une matière (d'examen). "Un sujet" rather describes a question you're given to answer. For instance, if you have to write a subject about Aurangzeb's economic policies, this would be "un sujet"

The only Indian language I speak a little bit is Hindi, but I understood that Telugu was a hard language even to Indians, so good luck!
