J’ai trois cochons d’inde. Elles sont très jolies et heureuses. On doit prendre soin correctement des cochons d’Inde. Tous les jours, ils ont besoin du foin, de l’eau, et des légumes frais.

"On doit BIEN prendre soin" would seem way more natural to me, but what you had written wasn't wrong, grammatically speaking

Avoir besoin DE quelque chose (as something absolute, so no articles)

Well, most animal names differenciate between males and females (ex « un mouton/un bêlier/une brebis », a ram/an ewe/a sheep (any sheep regardless of gender) but in the case of animal names that do not, although the pronoun can sometimes be different to indicate gender, it's far from being common and I wouldn't recommend a learner of doing so.
"Une grenouille", for instance, will always be a "elle", regardless of the frog's actual gender.
