You can work, look for information on internet, communicate with someone and also you can have a fun. All of this activites you can do on laptop anywhere. If you buy stationary PC, you can't take you PC at coffee shop and work there. Of course, if you work from home, having stationary PC with huge monitor is very useful. But, you can buy huge monitor and plug in your laptop to the monitor. As a result, you get same configuration as stationary PC with huge monitor. It's very useful.
