I believe that one's personality and the way of thinking is significantly affected by what language he uses. In addition, the process of acquiring new language is exciting. This is a fascinating topic. I agree with you on that even if machines can translate texts better than humans, there is still value in learning a language. (For instance, computers can play chess better than humans, but that doesn't make playing chess meaningless.)
I also like your last point. Sometimes, things can be lost in translation, even if the meaning is preserved, which is why looking at the original text is so important.
