The happy prince

I listen to this sad story, which was talking about a little swallow and a gold statue. It was a very touching story, the prince gave up all things, that he has for poor people, he gave up the world for something, which was more important. He believed that these people and their needs were the most important, he put others before himself, then he taught the swallow also that, they gave up many things, Roby, eyes..... even their lifes. I can't understand, how can someone be like that and I don't know if it will be good to wish that anyone be looking like them or that would be only a selfish behavior, but I taught that when you really can do good things or help people, you should do that, don't say why I? Instead of that say why not?

I am not sure what you mean by "Roby" here.

I can't understand, how can someone be like that and I don't know if it will be good to wish that anyone be looking like them or that would be only a selfish behavior, but I taught that when you really can do good things or help people, you should do that, don't say why I?

'Would be' conditional. Not a certain thing. 'was taught' passive past tense needed as are the subject and the action happened to you. Need the 'should' or doesn't make sense.
