Though not many days left in October, Kannazuki is another name for October in the old Japanese calendar.
Nowadays, it's also used as another name for October in the new calendar.
In Kannazuki, gods in all over Japan gather in Izumo to discuss what to do about the coming year.
"those two get married, this old man's lifespan ends next year, etc."
Outside of Izumo area, the gods are away, so it's called Kannazuki(神無月 month when gods are away).

During the tenth month of the lunar calendar, the myriad deities from across Japan are said to gather in Izumo. Over the course of a week, they consult with Izumo Grand Shrine’s main deity, Ōkuninushi no Kami, to determine things like the success or failure of harvests and the relationships that people will form in the next year. Thus, while this period is referred to as the “month without gods” (kannazuki) in most of the country, it is called the “month with gods” (kamiarizuki) in Izumo.

This sentence could be rephrased since you repeat 'the gods are away' twice. Maybe something like 'Since the gods are busy in Izumo, in other areas, it's called Kannazuki, the month when gods are away.'

The old Japanese calendar is very interesting. I've read that October is also called the month when there is no lightning (雷のない月、雷無月).
