Yesterday, while I was talking with an Australian person, he said the interesting phrase "crocodile tears".
I asked him about the meaning, and he said it means ウソ泣き in Japanese.
I thought it's a very interesting phrase.
However, I wonder if it's a phrase used in Australia...

I'm not sure about other countries, but in the US at least, I think most adults have heard it and know what it means. But I wouldn't say it's commonly used by people. Personally, I've never used it. I guess it's because I've never met or seen someone who I thought was shedding "crocodile tears."
It's a very interesting phrase though, isn't it? Why "crocodile"? 🐊

It's a very cute expression. I like it.
You've never used this phrase because you've never met someone who was shedding crocodile tears. That makes sense, but at least you know it means "fake tears". One of my American friends told me that it means "some crying a lot😭", so I was confuconfused, and I wanted to make sure what it means. Thank you for your help!

This is a very famous expression in the UK, and I think in most English speaking countries. I have no idea what the origin of the saying is though.
