just trying to use some words from a book

Jane would often go to jewellery shops instead of museums. Unfortunately, she couldn't afford even the cheapest pair of earrings, while her peers would often show up at school with multiple ears swung from each ear, with diamond rings on each hand, and of course with golden necklaces and bracelets. Once while she was staying at her classmate's house, she saw a beautiful necklace with a butterfly. She tried it on. It suited her well. She looked stunning. And she felt that she was the butterfly. An ugly caterpillar turned into a beautiful butterfly. When her classmate left the room, she couldn't help it and put the necklace into one of her big pockets. Her classmate didn't notice anything. However, when Jane came home, she realised she'd done a stupid thing. She was a good person, not a thief. She wanted to return the necklace, but she didn't know how to do that secretly. While she was thinking about that, guilt was clawing at her insides.

"guilt was clawing at her insides" - it's actually an expression from the book, which I liked - and the idea of my text was to come up with a different reason for that)
