Are Shanghai People Arrogant (2)

First, I wish all of you a happy new year! Everyone on this page will get good health, a harmonious family, and wealth in 2023!
My older sister's father-in-law worked as a director of a 10,000-staff factory after retiring from the army. They were rich compared with my family. I didn't like eating at their family, they usually provide very little quantity for each plate of a dish. I nearly couldn't eat full every time.
I know Shanghai and adjacent areas have been the richest place in China for thousands of years. People living there have considerable financial acumen. If this area was considered an independent country, the country would be the most developed country in the world. Shanghai was forced to open to western countries in 1843. Some western countries managed concessions were established. It was good news for local people though the government said it was a shame.
I got an offer from METRO ( a Germany-owned hypermarket), and the company arranged for me to be trained in this admirable, mysterious metropolis. I was proud and happy to get free training. On the train to Shanghai, I was excited and dreamed about my future a lot, will the Shanghai people be as arrogant as I heard before?

If this area was considered an independent country, the country would be the most developed country in the world.

Ha, ha! This would make more sense if you specified how you would be measuring this country’s development, for example, GDP per capita. And of course, if the same measurement were likewise applied to other metropolises, then Shanghai would probably not come out as the most developed.

People living there have considerable financial acumenwealth.

'Financial acumen' is quite a technical word, and it means 'financial expertise/skills/knowlege', whereas I think you might just want to refer here to the amount of money/wealth that they have?
