Our staple foods are mainly rice, steamed buns and noodles, and our non-staple foods are chicken, fish, meat, eggs, soy products and vegetables. We rarely eat bread, instead we only regard bread as pastry.
I have a bread machine. I made bread several times and I think it's done well. I also made pizzas with my oven several times and I think it's not bad.
I don't like eating spicy foods and I like eating light flavored foods. Less oil, less salt, less seasoning, no sugar and natural fresh ingredients are my pursuit of the food. I think this kind of diet is very beneficial to our health.
There shouldn't be regrets because you are in an English-speaking country where you have little chance to practice your Chinese, so your Chinese will gradually become worse.
No matter in any country, it's unrealistic to let the elderly live together with their children because the facts speak for themselves. In China, when the elderly can't take care of themselves, I think it is a better choice to live in a nursing home. China has many nursing homes run by the government or individual enterprises and the conditions of the nursing homes are really good. All you need to do is to pay them. There are dedicated staff responsible for cleaning, caring and cooking for the elderly. Nursing homes also often hold some interesting activities for the elderly.
