Macrons don't exist in written Latin, only in beginners textbooks and while a useful tool for learning aren't necessary. Thus this isn't a spelling mistake.

the romans did write vowel length with diacritics called apices, which serve the same purpose as macrons do today. i suggest you watch scorpiomartianus' video on it
