I think there are many reasons for emailing that people have.
First, people send emails for announcements. For example, the school always send emails to students or parents to tell them when they will start the new term and what they should prepare for it. The organizations usually send emails to tell people about their new policies.

Your boss may send you a email to describe the task, then you might need to reply it when you have done it or if you have any questions or even difficulties. Also you might need to do a team work, than you should send the descriptions of the task and your thoughts to your colleges.
Finally, people send emails for connections. People apply jobs by sending emails, make appointments through emails, keep in touch with friends or families who are living far away, and so on.
There must have more and more reasons for emailing between people. It’s a really easy, fast way to make people getting connections and sharing something.
