yesterday
When I was a child ( about a year ago , now I am a mature and grown man already) I found a book without a cover in the very old house in mountains, where we were staying on summer vacancion.
I started reading it and spent several wonderful evenings with this book, reading in bed before sleep.
It was a story about a young boy who lived a nice but boring life in a small village.
One day he was hosting a passing by group of older guys ( some of them were with beards already) from a neighbour country.
These older guys wanted to make a trip to an exotic place with a big sacred mountain and have some fun on the way, combining business and pleasure.
So this young guy decided to go with them .
They have had a lot of interesting adventures and a lot of fun. They even fought with other guys and found some money.
Then they returned home tired and happy.
I really liked this story. However some things were strange to me.
I could not understand why they were traveling several months ( almost a year actually). Don't they have a work to do ?
Also they were smoking pipes which is a disgusting habit at their age.
The young guy age has been mentioned as 50 which is definitely a mistake.
Anyway it was a veru nice story and I liked it very much. I wish this story will be taught in school instead of math.

You were a child last year, and this year you are a mature man?
In English we normally talk about children then teenagers then adults seperately. So children are <13, teenagers are 13-19, and adults are 18+ (or 20+, or 21+... depends a little on local culture). So normally there would be at least a 5 year gap between being described as a child and being described as an adult.
Or perhaps you meant "some years ago" rather than "about a year ago"?

"passing by" is like a momentary interaction, like passing someone on the street in a couple of minutes. If they stayed long enough to be hosted, then "passing through" is more natural.
"neighbouring" is the adjective of "neighbour"
