Is this sentence correct?

I was enrolled at the institute in 2022.

Is this sentence correct and natural? I want to say that I was accepted into a research institute (not a university) to study for a PhD. I had to take an entrance exam to be accepted. I am still studying there.

Corrections

I was enrolled at the institute in 2022.

If you are still there, it would just be "I enrolled at". If you were no longer there, then it would be "I was enrolled at".

I was enrolled at the institute in 2022.

Just in case my sentence doesn't mean what I want it to mean: I'm using "enrolled" as a synonym for "accepted" and "admitted".

Yes it doesn't. You could simply just say that "I was admitted into the institute in 2022 following my success in the entrance exam OR after passing the entrance exam".

If you just say "I enrolled at the institute" it just seems that you chose to sign up there.
