Is GDP Outdated?

GDP (Gross Domestic Product) has long been used to assess the market value of a country or region. It seems that most financial media focus on the related figures. This morning, however, after reading a news story. The meaning of GDP gave me some more ideas.

Russia revealed its statistics that in the last quarter of 2023, the GDP of Russia gained a 5.5% increase over the same period of 2022. The monster military expenditure contributed to the most. It also reminds me of thinking similar situation in China, where the local government often claims how much GDP has increased. Unfortunately, many of these figures result from massive construction projects and regular people do not benefit from them.

Therefore, what does GDP bring to us?

"This morning, however, after reading a news story." is not a sentence because there's no subject or verb. It is a dependent clause ("dependent" because it depends on a sentence to be connected to it). If you connected the sentences like this: "This morning, however, after reading a news story, the meaning of GDP gave me some more ideas." then grammatically, "meaning" read a news story, not "I". So I changed it to "I got some..."
