Irrationality (pt.2)
The description of irrational life in the previous post reminded me of the episode Zima Blue of Love, Death & Robots. Some passages from the original were cut from the episode. Kylie relies on the little robot she carries around, the "Memo Assistant," to save her memories and rely on the robot to make decisions for her according to the parameters of her memories. Kelly forgets to take her robot when she meets with Zima. When Zima asks her if she wants red or white wine, she doesn't know what to do. Zima said, "Doesn't your whole life become a series of predictable feedbacks? Unless you ignore its suggestions." Zima then described the hypothetical Kelly defied the machine and chose red wine instead of white, but unexpectedly found it delicious. This experience of tasting red wine, this conversation, the beauty of the sunset, and the feeling of being slightly drunk brought a very good feeling. First she says it will not take this as a special case, then immediately she says it should record this as a special case.

Ahh OK. In that case, I think it should be something like, "The Memo Assistant will certainly take such a delightful misadventure as a special case, and will record it separately when making future decisions."
"as an exception" might make the meaning clearer than "as a special case" too.

What an insightful entry! I have not heard of the show but it sounds very interesting. I agree with Zima in principle, but in reality I am probably more like Kelly -- afraid of change and of being wrong. I guess we have to find the balance between our inner Zima and our inner Kelly.
