Improving my english by reading.

I tried many tips to improve my english and I think I've found a good way * by reading and listening short novels for exemple « Fantastic Mr Fox », funny story written by Roald Dahl .

Here is my method : I listen the story (it's easy to find an audio version on the web and any of them are some good ones!)), one, two, three... many times again and again and, in the same time, I try to read the book, one, two, three times...

Actually, after these first listenings and readings I don't understand all the words but it doesn't matter, my brain records the sound and the pronunciation of the words et I begin to understand the story (of course, Fantastic... isn't a very complicated story!) .

The next step is looking for the meaning of the words I didn't really understand : Iuse dictionnary, on line or not, and I note (easy on a computer) the meaning with sentences and exemples with, sometimes, a translation in French .

Finally, I listen again and read again the story, my memory works and, as a result, I'm gonna be able 1) to understand better and better this story, 2) to write many sentences of the story (memory) and 3) to talk with someone about the story I have read .

I think that after the studying of that kind of book (around 80 pages) I would have been learning maybe 250 or 300 words and ways to use theses words.

The last step ? Read and listen many other books !

* I would say my « personal method », I don't know if it's a good way  but I try it . Work, wait and see!
