17. Describe a time when you forgot/missed an appointment
I'd like to share an incident from my second summer year at university when I had a rather unfortunate experience of missing an appointment. It all began when I was looking for part-time jobs to support myself during the summer break.
I stumbled upon a job posting on a popular job website, and it immediately caught my attention. It was a job working in a school canteen, and it offered a relatively high salary for a student like me. Excited about the prospect of earning some extra money, I wasted no time. I called the phone number in the job ad, and the lady on the other end asked if I could come in for an interview in two hours.
This sudden interview appointment left me a bit flustered, but I agreed. I was genuinely interested in the job, even though the early morning working hours were a bit daunting. However, my eagerness to secure a job led me to act impulsively.
As I continued scrolling through the job listings on the website, I stumbled upon another job opportunity that seemed even more suitable for me. This one had a much more manageable start time of 9 am, which was a far cry from the 5 am start time of the canteen job. As someone who struggled to wake up early, the second option felt like a better fit.
So, I decided to opt for the second job, which seemed more aligned with my preferences and schedule.
Here's where things took a regrettable turn. Rather than calling the lady from the canteen job to inform her about my change of plans, I allowed my fear of potential confrontation to get the better of me; I chose to intentionally turn off my phone and ignore the interview appointment altogether.
Reflecting on this, I felt terrible about my actions. I imagined that the lady from the canteen job might have been waiting for me, expecting me to show up for the interview. It wasn't a responsible or considerate decision on my part, and I deeply regretted not handling the situation better.
In hindsight, I learned the importance of clear communication and being honest when situations change. It's a lesson that has stuck with me, reminding me to be more responsible and considerate when it comes to commitments and appointments, even if it means facing potentially uncomfortable conversations.
