I learned the new phrase "dwell on"

I came across the phrase "dwell on", so I'd like to use it.

To avoid confusion, let me quickly explain about my son.

My son has autism.

He is not good at communicating with people and also has a low IQ.

Last year, we went to KFC to order some chicken for Christmas.

In front of the counter, he couldn't communicate with the shop clerk at the time.

I ended up helping him telling the right word with a small voice and he managed to order.

When we back to the car, he blamed himself.

He said something like "Ahh, I failed again. why can't I speak well"

I said "It's okay, no worries"

Something like this happens quite often.

He often dwell on his mistake too much.

Does my use sounds okay?

Sounds good! That's how you'd use it. Just needed to conjugate it according to the third person singular pronoun.

"Dwell on mistakes" is a very common expression, so yeah!
"Dwell on the past" is another common expression.
The nuance is usually negative, but you could say, "Dwell on it for a bit," which would mean something like "take your time to think about it for a little."
Also, without a negative nuance, "dwell on" can mean "linger." Like, "She let her eyes dwell on him," but this sounds a little literary.

If you mean a *very* low voice, you can say that you spoke in a "whisper".

Just "mistake" is okay if you mean the most recent mistake he's made; but if he thinks about (dwells on) a lot of his mistakes at once, then I think it's better to use the s.
