Roboticists at Columbia University developed an AI which reportedly has discovered "new" physical variables in a dynamic system. They explain that a double pendula was used in this experiment. This system can be described by four state variables (angle and angular velocity of each pendulum). However, this AI found two "new" variables which can be used to describe mathematically the system.
Nevertheless, this raises a few questions. For instance, are these variables a linear combination of other physical variables? The roboticists stated that the "new" variables do not correlate with angular velocity. However, this does not signify that this set of variables is not a linear combination of the angular velocity of each pendulum. It seems this AI is still at an early stage of development. Thus, hypothesis cannot be discarded.
Consequently, if the AI findings are indeed a new set of variables to describe the double pendula. Then it would mean there is a complete branch of physics to be discovered. Even though it's unlikely it would lead to a theory of unification, finding new ways of seeing the world can take mankind really far.
Euler, Newton and Lagrange did an excellent job describing these dynamic systems. Who would be the next genius?

Generally, we want to qualify "this" with something specific - it helps with clarity!
The roboticists stated that the "new"ly discovered variables do not correlate with angular velocity.
Thus, the hypothesis cannot be discard(refuted/dismissed).
Consequently, if the AI findings are indeed a new set of variables to describe the double pendula, then it would signify that there is a completely new branch of physics to be discovered.
Combined to make a complete sentence.
Then it would mean there is a complete branch of physics to be discovered.
Even though it' is unlikely it wouldto lead to a theory of unification, finding new ways of seeing the world can take mankind really far.
Removed contraction in "it's" and "really" for more consistency in tone. Just comes off as more formal to me!

This is mostly a stylistic change, to avoid using parenthesis.

"...which can be used to mathematically describe the system" is also ok.

The roboticists stated that the "new"recently discovered variables do not correlate with angular velocity.
However, this does not necessarily signify that this set of variables is not a linear combination of the angular velocity of each pendulum.

The original phrase isn't a complete sentence so I added the next sentence to complete it.
