Henry Miller -- 2
Reading Miller was (and already is) a wonderful experience for me. Although his work takes the form of novels, I read it the same way I read poetry. I don’t search a plot, since I know that I wouldn’t find one anyway. I look for some sentences that I feel like daggers. When reading one, I am looking forward to finding the next one. For that reason I usually don’t read more than 20 or 30 pages in one sitting.
I already mentioned the lack of a defined plot. As far as I know, all the novels have an undeniable main character: Henry Miller himself and his way of regarding the world. Miller’s work follows next quote (by Charles Bukowski): “in the future all the books will be autobiographic”.
I haven’t already written a word about sex. Miller’s novels were at that time very controversial due to that. In fact, the author was accused of pornography and his work still remains controversial in feminist circles. I understand that point of view. I am the opinion that Miller’s work is great despite his sex scenes, not thanks to those.
