Harvesting Wheat

The wheat harvest season where I live is around the end of May and the beginning of June, so another wheat harvest season is coming soon.

It reminds me of the wheat harvest season in the past when I was a child.

About one week before harvesting wheat, people started buying some essential tools, such as wooden winnowing spades, wooden forks, reaping hooks and straw hats.

The wooden winnowing spade is used to separate the wheat grains from the wheat straws; the fork is used to collect wheat straws; the hook is used to harvest wheat and the hat is used to protect people from the hot sunshine.

Besides preparing these tools, another important thing is to make a threshing spot. People usually find a piece of land not far from the village to make a threshing spot.

They even out the spot first, then use crushed wheat straw to cover the spot evenly, spread water on the spot and use a stone roller to roll the ground to make it solid, even and without any gaps.

People harvest wheat, bind it into bundles, take it back to the threshing spot with a man-powered cart, thresh the wheat by hitting the ear of the wheat against one end of a standing stone roller.

When the wheat grains are threshed, people need to dry them under the sun in the fields, then collect them and take them home into granaries. People also need to heap up the wheat straw into stacks in order to feed the cattle during winter or store it as firewood.

If the weather is nice, the harvest will last about two weeks, but if it is not, it is hard to say how many days it will take to finish the harvest. I remember one year, the wheat sprouted because of the endless rains.

However, those are the things in the past. Nowadays, the harvest can be finished within only one week with modern technology and agricultural machinery.

Harvesting Wheat

The wheat harvest season where I live istakes place around the end of May and the beginning of June, so another wheat harvest season is coming soon.

It's an "event" so using takes place sounds more natural.

It reminds me of the wheat harvest season in the pasts when I was a child.

"When I was" already tells us this was in the past, so no need to specify that. Your childhood covered multiple seasons.

Besides preparing these tools, another important thing is to makprepare a threshing spot.

People usually find a piece of land not far from the village to makeuse as a threshing spot.

You're not creating the piece of land, but changing it to work as a threshing spot. So "use as" sounds more natural than "make". Alternatively you could say "turn into".

They even out the spot first, then use crushed wheat straw to cover the spot evenly, spread water on the spot and use a stone roller to roll the ground to make it solid, even and without any gaps.

People harvest wheat, bind it into bundles, take it back to the threshing spot with a man-powered cart, and thresh the wheat by hitting the ear of the wheat against one end of a standing stone roller.

Summation pattern is x, y and z. "And" signals this is the last thing in this sentence.

When the wheat grains are threshed, people need to dry them under the sun in the fields, then collect them and take them home into granaries.

People also need to heap up the wheat straw into stacks in order to feed the cattle during winter or store it as firewooduel for the fire.

Firewood sounds a bit weird when it's not actually wood.

We're still talking about threshing spots, so we can use "one" to avoid repetition.

They even out the spot first, then use crushed wheat straw to cover the spoit evenly,. They spread water on the spot, and use a stone roller to roll the ground to make it solid, even, and without any gaps.

Most of these corrections are just to make it sound a bit cleaner.
