When Sergeant Brunswick left the office at the police station, Mrs Groynes immediately set to work. She was only halfway throught it when the phone rang. She was waiting for an important call from the Leeds Police, and couldn’t miss it. Unfortunately, she could also hear Inspector Steine speaking downstairs, so it wouldn’t be long before he made his way back upstairs. She answered the call, however, the police officer on the other end spoke very slowly. Mrs Groynes had to try hard not to lash out at him, though she did push him to hurry up. When the call was finally over, she returned to the letter, hastily writing a few other sentences. She had grown so tense, almost distraught, that she didn’t notice she had made a few mistakes. As Steine entered the office, she steadied herself, greeting him with her usual composure.
