Fukuroda Falls (81)

I went to Fukuroda Falls in Ibaraki prefecture.

There's a long tunnel to the falls, and two observatories at the end of the tunnel.

The observatories are in front of the falls, so you can see the powerful falls very close.

There's also a suspension bridge near the falls, and you can walk on it.

It looks like there are some hiking trails, but it was super hot that day, the temperature was 36 degrees Celsius, so I didn't walk.

I read on the internet that Fukuroda falls is one of the three most beautiful falls in Japan.

滝の目の前に展望デッキがあるので、ま近で迫力ある滝が見られます。

滝の近くにつり橋もあってそこを歩くことができます。

そのあたりにハイキングコースもあるようですが、その日は気温が36度もあったので歩きませんでした。

I think 滝 is usually just called "waterfall" in English. Personally, I say only "waterfalls," but sometimes I have seen waterfalls referred to as "falls," so I think it's OK. "Falls" is used in the official name "Fukuroda Falls" (or other waterfalls like "Niagra Falls") because it's just an abbreviation of "waterfall" in the name.

The observatories are in front of the falls, so you can see the powerful falls very close.

There's also a suspension bridge near the falls, and you can walk on it.

Thank you so much for your corrections and explanation! It's good place to visit, but it's in the very countryside, and maybe there's not good transportation system, so joining a tour might be good.

No problem!

By the way, I'm not sure if you saw an earlier version of my corrections, but I made some changes. As I think about it more, I have heard the word "falls" used before, so I think it's OK.

Thank you so much again. but maybe "waterfall" sounds better, right?

I think "fall" sounds OK. For example, the Wikipedia article on "Niagra Falls" uses "fall" instead of "waterfall" a lot, so it sounds fine. But for me, in spoken conversation, I've only ever said "waterfall," and I've never said "falls." And I haven't heard "fall" as often as "waterfall." Maybe other native English speakers have used "fall" though. 🤔

For example, in this article, "falls" is used a lot (just like how you wrote "falls"): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Niagara_Falls

Interesting. Thank you for explaining again! Similar thing happens to Japanese. People use different word depending on the person and it's interesting😄
