Thumbs (Sabrina Carpenter) is a song I can recommend to you if you want to explore this colloquial phrase a bit more if there is no equivalent in Spanish !
Basically ‘to twiddle one’s thumbs’ I believe is to sit vacantly, without action, lazily. !

It can be metaphorical and literal:
Situation 1: travelling down a road and meeting up with a friend. “I will meet you halfway, at the supermarket.”
Situation 2: a couple is arguing about whether they should buy 1 bed or another bed, one of them says “I will meet you half way” and suggests they get a third option that meets both of their desires.

Ok. Thank you for your suggestion! I think that "¿Por qué estás aquí sentado, sin hacer nada?" is more natural.

Hmm, in that case, the first situation should be translated as "te veré a la mitad del camino." The second situation, however, is more complicated. I wouldn't use "mitad" or "media," instead I'd translate as "pensemos en otra opción."
