Fishing

When I was a child, I lived in my home village. All families in the village jointly owned the farmland of my village and worked together as a production team.

Every spring, the production team put many different baby fish into the moat of my village and caught the fish in the mid-autumn to assign the fish to every family to improve their living conditions.

During summer, the fish grew big. We often saw fish just under the surface of the water, or eating the reeds leaves or some fruit that fell into the water from trees along the banks of the moat.

We were not allowed to fish secretly. If we were caught, our labor marks would be deducted.

As children, we sometimes couldn't resist the attraction of the fish. So we may sometimes fish secretly.

To fish, we used thin and long bamboo, the threads that our moms used to make clothes, needles that used to make clothes too, and earthworms.

We used an oil light to heat a needle to make it soften and bend it to a hook by hand vice. We used a piece of sorghum peduncle as a float. All of this stuff was from nature and made up a fishing gear.

However, I just did secretly fishing a few times and didn't get any fish. I was afraid that I would be caught because of fishing sneakily.

Thank you very much.

When I was a child, I lived in my homea village.

The village you grew up in is, by definition, your home village, so your original wording sounds repetitive.

All families in the village jointly / communally owned the farmland (of my village) and worked together as a production team.

“Of my village” sounds unnatural and seems unnecessary.

Every spring, the production team put many different babyfingerling fish into the moat of my village, and caught the fish in the mid-autumn to assign the fishevery mid-autumn they caught the fish and distributed them to every family (as food?) to improve their living conditions.

Baby fish are called fry, fingerlings or juvenile fish.

“Assigned” sounds weird, as if the families were responsible for continuing to raise the fish or something like that. Don’t you mean they were given the fish to eat?

So we may/ Therefore we sometimes fished secretly.

However, I just [did secretly fishing | fished secretly] a few times and didn't get any fish.

I was afraid that I would be caught because of fishing sneakilypoaching.

Killing fish or other wild animals illegally is called “poaching.”

Feedback

It must’ve been thrilling to try to poach the fish. :-)

Communally. Fry. Fingerling. Juvenile. Poach.
The fish was distributed/allocated to every family to be eaten.
I have checked the difference between distribute, assign, allocate and apportion.
No. It was more of fear than thrill.
Thank you very much. I hope you are doing well.

“Community” sounds more wholesome and natural than “production team”

Every spring, the production teamour community would put many different baby fish into the moat of my village, and caught the fish in the mid-autumn season to assign the fish to every family to improve their living conditions.

Did your village really have a mote? Usually they're only around castles and other military structures to protect them, I've never heard of one being dug around an entire village.

During summer, the fish grew big.

To fish, we used thin and long bamboo, thlong thin bamboo pole and some threads that our moms used to make clothes, needles that used to make cloth. We would make hooks from our mothers needles too, and use earthworms as bait.

"long" always comes before "thin" ... I don't know why it just does.

We used an oil light to heat a needle to make it soften and bend it to a hook by hand vice.

We used a piece of sorghum peduncle as a float.

I wouldn't say threads and needs are "from nature" since metal needles take a lot of work to make. I'd probably say: "Everything we used for our fishing gear was gathered locally." or "Everything we needed to go fishing we could get from home." etc

However, I just didonly fishing secretly fishing a few times, and didn't getcatch any fish.

I was afraid that I would be caught because of fishing sneakilywhile fishing.

Excellent writing - and sounds like a really nice childhood! I've also never heard of the word "peduncle" before and had to look it up.

It's very common to see that almost every village in my area is surrounded by a moat, which was dug to protect the villages in the past.

Yes, you are right. The threads and needles are not from nature. They are individual products.

I didn't know the word "peduncle" either. I looked it up on the internet by searching for the names of different parts of sorghum. Lol.

Thank you so much for correcting my writing.
