First Try

I am trying to improve my English skills, but it is more complicated than I expected. I live in the USA, so I have many friends who speak English. I also believe in myself—I can do it!

Anyway, I like watching movies and TV series. These days, I’m watching How I Met Your Mother. By the way, my husband is good at English. Sometimes, we speak to each other in English, but it doesn’t last long.

For all these reasons, I made a study schedule, and I am very determined to learn to speak English like a native speaker.

Since you're writing causally, you can use contractions :) It keeps the casual flow of this text.

Anyway, I like watching movies and TV series.

This sentence is perfect, but since you're living in the U.S. I thought that I'd let you know that it's common for us Americans to say "show" instead of "series" You can use them both, but for some reason I always hear "Netflix show" or "this new show on Amazon Prime" as opposed to series. But, as said before, you CAN use both. So no stress :D

These days, I’m watching How I Met Your Mother.

How I Met Your Mother should be italicized, since it's a TV show name. It's not super serious, but recommended, but I get that this can't be done on this website so no worries :D

Just for flow :)

Great job! For a first try, I'd say that you did an amazing job. You made very few grammar mistakes. It's not easy to start something new, so I hope that you feel proud of yourself for taking the first steps to learn. Also, I completely understand trying to talk with your partner in English and the conversations not lasting long. I've tried to do that with my fiancée who speaks better German than me, and we can only speak in German for a maximum of 20 minutes before we switch back to English :D It can be difficult. My suggestion is to maybe ask one of your native English-speaking friends if they could talk with you sometimes and make corrections. Choose someone that you trust and who encourages you to make mistakes whilst not putting you down for doing so. Maybe you could even find a Tandem partner if that doesn't work out :D Whatever you end up doing, good luck! You're off to an awesome start!

Thank you so much for your kind words! Learning a new language has its challenges, but it's also exciting! I'll definitely consider finding a Tandem partner or a friend who can help me practice. Thanks again for your support and great advice!

This is absolutely incredible work for your first try! I'd say you have a better grasp on English grammar than many native speakers—at least in the USA 😜
